how do i change the strings on my g-series takamine acoustic guitar?
this may be a really stupid question but i dont know how to do it. please help me.
I’m not familiar with that specific series of guitars but I’m going to assume it’s a normally strung acoustic guitar. You want to change the strings one at a time. I’ve had Luthiers even tell me it’s okay to cut them all and then re-string. IMO it should be done one at a time. It doesn’t hurt anything to do the safe thing. I just get wire cutter and cut each old string. You probably have the type of acoustic where the bridge (the part on the body that holds the ball end of each string) has little pegs that look like miniature golf tees. Remove those pegs one at a time. Replace with the corresponding new string. Do them in order, smallest to biggest so you don’t get the strings confused. Wrap the string end around the tuner posts a couple of times before you thread the string thru the post hole. This will help your guitar stay in tune. Then turn the tuner until the string is back in tune and onto the next. When you’re done with each string, give the string a tug to make sure there’s no slack around the posts. If you don’t, it will keep slipping out of tune. When you’re done with all of the strings, take your wire cutters and trim each end about half an inch from the posts. After you play it for a while they will get stretched out and stay in tune for you. I hope that answers your question to your satisfaction, if not, send me an email if I need to be more specific.
